Be Part of It 2015 - British Gymnastics Competition

It was announced  on Twitter by British Gymnastics, that OUR video entered into the competition had WON!! Becky Downie chose the winner and we are delighted that she picked us.  The idea of the video we entered was to learn a dance that British Gymnastics had put together, and to put our own twist on it, and yes we certainly did that, the only way Chelmsford know how to. In winning this competition we have won, £1000 towards Gymnova equipment and 4 tickets to see the championships live.

We would like to say a very BIG thank you to all involved in the video, from the Gymnasts / parents who learnt the dance and took part, to the parents who helped on the day with hair, to Coach Sarah who took leadership in teaching the gymnasts the dance and being creative, Coach Rabin for doing an amazing job with the Filming, and to everyone who has liked and shared the video once it was uploaded for all to see on Social Media.

COACH OF THE YEAR

Huge congratulations to Sarah Colyer, who has won the "Coach of the Year" Trophy.  Sarah is a long-standing member of our coaching team, and is also a qualified Ballet Teacher and Choreographer.   Sarah's dedication to excellence in performance gives focus to our gymnasts and in particular our squad members.   Sarah is also one of our County Squad coaches. Well done, Sarah.

COUNTY SQUAD

We are very proud of our gymnasts who were selected to be part of Essex County Squad in 2016.  Trials for 2017 selection are imminent.  We are very proud of all our gymnasts who are being entered for these trials and wish them the very best.  GOOD LUCK!

Distinctions for all!

June has been officially dubbed 'distinction month' for Michelle's group at the County Recreational Grade Competitions held at Ipswich.  On 14th June,  Jasmin Smith passed her grade 1 with distinction, coming 6th place overall.  The following weekend saw her fellow gymnasts continuing the trend, with Scarlett Robb, Angelica Sandler, Sophie Joslin and Emily Spencer all passing their Grade 3 with distinction.  Congratulations to all the girls and thanks to Michelle for all her hard work.

Sponsored Event 2009

On 16th May our gymnasts took part in our sponsored bounce.  This annual event raises much needed funds to replace equipment - this year we are looking to purchase 4 new landing mats for the bars.  The gymnasts competed in their groups to do as many bounces as possible on the tampette.  Our little pre-schoolers had great fun and said they could have bounced all year - they achieved an impressive 110 bounces in 5 minutes.  Coming in first place however were a group from the development squad who managed a staggering 456 bounces!  Our target is £2000, and the gymnast who riases the most money will have their name printed on one of the landing mats.

Terror in the Skies!

On Sunday 3rd May, my brave mum jumped off a tremendously high tower in Harlow.  She did it to rasie money for our gym club, and she raised £230.  The height of the tower was 110 feet tall and she was very scared.  She said that the scariest part was climbing over the edge with nothing to hold on to!  Check out the photo gallery for a picture of my mum in action!

Press Release 12th November 2008

Chelmsford Gymnastics Club is saying goodbye to a beam that has served them well for over 40 years!

The club held a sponsored forward roll earlier this year to raise funds for a new beam.  This was a great success, and the club hit its target of £2000.  Jodie Sheehan was the gymnast raising the most sponsorship, raising over £100.  The new beam was delivered to the club earlier this week.

The old beam has been in use at the club for over 40 years.  Carol Argent, whose daughter Nicole is now a gymnast at the club, remembers training on the old beam in her junior years with the club's former coach, Mrs Dvorak.  She recalls "Although it was a much smaller club then, the training was pretty much the same as Nicole undertakes now."  The club has grown over the years, and now boasts over 200 gymnasts ranging in age from 18 months to 18 years!

Julie Belemore, Head Coach, said "This was the first sponsored event that we had held and we were thrilled with the response.  Gymnastics equipment is notoriously expensive, so we are hoping this beam will last as long as the old one!".

Any local business who could help the club with their fundraising should call Julie on 01245 284621

Press Release 17th November 2008

Chelmsford Gymnast gets selected for County Squad

For the first time in the club's history, one of its gymnasts has been selected to represent Essex in the County Squad.

Jessica Wright, aged 18, from Newlands Springs, Chelmsford, was chosen to represent the county at the Inter County teams competition in Ipswich on Saturday (15th November).

The team, which included 4 other girls from across the county, competed against teams from Cambridgeshire, Bedfordshire, Hertfordshire, Suffolk and Norfolk. They performed routines on the asymmetric bars, beam, floor and vault.

The team performed excellently, and scooped the bronze medal!

Jessica has been a member of Chelmsford Gymnastics club since she was 9 years old, and was selected for the county squad in January. She will represent Essex until the end of year when the teams will be selected once again for the coming years' competitions.
